The Innovative coefficient of the WoundViewer technology, among with clinical, social and economic impact, has allowed Omnidermal to be awarded the prestigious Premio Leonardo Startup 2018. The prize was awarded in March 2019 in Rome at the presence of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, important institutional offices and representatives of Italian and international business community.
Since 1993 the Leonardo Committee established this prestigious prize to give prominence and visibility to Italian companies that stand out for their innovation in the research field and in the excellence of their products.
Omnidermal Biomedics falls fully into these Excellencies: WoundViewer is the only device on the market capable of returning an objective, quantitative and standardized evaluation of a wound, ensuring a consecutive and comparative follow-up study of the evolution of cutaneous ulcer healing and promptly alert healthcare professionals in case of worsening conditions.
Omnidermal Biomedics aims to provide professionals in the field of angiology, vascular and general surgery, a diagnostic tool that can improve the choice of the most appropriate therapy, which reduces costs for healthcare providers. It is also engaged in the construction of a standard of care of skin ulcers which is nowadays absent. Skin ulcers afflicts today over 2 million patients a year in Italy and are characterised by healing time which can exceed 5 years. WoundViewer can improve the quality of the diagnosis and treatment resulting in cost savings of more than 25% of total healthcare expenditure as well as in the improvement of the quality of life of patients suffering from this disease. The cost for treating skin ulcers is estimated at about 1.5 billion euros per year.
